Job Title: Credit Manager
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Job Purpose
The Credit Manager will be responsible for overseeing the credit management process in a rapidly growing microlending business with a national footprint, ensuring that lending policies are adhered to, and managing all aspects of credit control. The role involves analyzing customer accounts, reporting on the effectiveness of credit and lending policies, and recommending strategies for improvement. The Credit Manager will work closely with the Operations Manager to manage credit risk and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory frameworks within the South African microlending landscape.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Aid the company in achieving a well-balanced loan portfolio through accurate forecasting of anticipated outcomes.
- Devise and execute champion/challenger customer strategies aligning with Board expectations.
- Monitor portfolio performance, ensuring compliance with predefined KPIs by proposing proactive adjustments.
- Address data integrity concerns, validate analytical results, and test assumptions to ensure accuracy.
- Analyze the effects of strategy alterations on application areas and account management strategies.
- Deliver insights through reports and presentations, presenting findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Use statistical techniques to forecast and track implemented strategies.
- Oversee the implementation of strategy changes into operational systems.Proficient in coding with retail experience.
Credit professional with expertise in IFRS9, credit strategy rules, and risk registers.
Key Responsibilities
- Credit Management
Oversee the day-to-day credit control processes to ensure compliance with the company’s credit and lending policies.
Monitor customer accounts to ensure that the prevailing credit/lending policy results in timely repayment of loans and adherence to repayment schedules.
Reconciliation of any manual payments received but not receipted by the system to ensure accuracy of the loan portfolio.
Work with the loan evaluators to ensure adherence to the prevailing credit and lending policy.
Work with the collections controllers to manage overdue accounts and minimize bad debts.
- Credit & Lending Policy Compliance
Ensure that all credit and lending activities align with the business’s policies, South African regulations, and National Credit Act (NCA) guidelines.
Assist in the development and review of credit policies to adapt to evolving market conditions and regulatory changes.
- Reporting & Analysis
Prepare regular reports on credit control activities, loan performance, delinquency rates, and recovery processes for senior management and the Operations Manager.
Analyze data to assess the effectiveness of current credit policies and identify trends in customer behaviour, recommending changes to improve risk management.
- Risk Mitigation
Identify potential risks in the loan portfolio and recommend proactive strategies to mitigate these risks.
Work closely with the collections team to address delinquent accounts and devise strategies to reduce the company’s exposure to credit risk.
- Systems & Process Improvement
Work with the Operations Manager to improve credit control processes and implement system upgrades or automation to enhance efficiency.
Suggest and implement best practices in credit control and management.
